Our Professional training center named Center for Africa Peace and Security is timely and strategically essential to address the vast burning questions in the domain of Conflict, Peace, and Security. As experts and individuals engaged in this discipline for many years in different Universities and Institutes of Higher Learning in Cameroon, Africa, and Europe in different capacities, we have observed, lectured, written, and researched the different natures and phases of conflicts and the different approaches used and to be used in responding to different types of conflicts.
This has nurtured and nourished us with scholastic and empirical knowledge of understanding the complexity of this domain. With this experience, we observed how many people are unable to differentiate the typology of conflicts which has led to various ramifications like; conflicts resurfacing, conflicts protracting, conflict escalating to higher levels of violence with untold consequences, increase of differences, tensions in a variety of settings and situations.
Large numbers of people are questioning the conventional role of homogeneity of state existence but at the same time, do not have answers on how to approach diversity, difference, heterogeneity, pluralism, multiculturalism. These challenges have made us reflect on the various ways of averting and evading these different types of conflicts and their corresponding impact on society.
In our professional training Center, we are engaged in empowering applicants and participants to understand the different types of conflicts and how they can be addressed. They will be empowered with skills in conflict prevention, analysis, and resolution. This entails the mastery of the life span of conflict from birth to either management, resolution, or transformation.
Using the strategy of conflict resolution, the various techniques will be applied on how and why conflicts will be resolved following a particular logic, conflict escalation levels, and conflict widening. In another expression, it entails acquiring skills in Conflict Resolution. The phases and categories in which these skills packaged, will be taught.
The Professional training program focuses on a transdisciplinary and practice-oriented curriculum in the field of peace and security. It addresses the typologies of conflicts: conflict Resolution, Conflict Management, and Conflict Transformation with solid attention to participatory practical social action. Thus, the program capacitates participants for managing national, African, and world social conflicts in national, transnational, and intercultural contexts. This is to make participants convey their acquired knowledge to a specific focus in a broader field of work opportunities such as NGOs, governments, and international organizations.
We have furthermore realized that large numbers of people are frustrated in relation to conflicts and many states and organizations are insufficiently equipped to approach these conflicts in a constructive method. Discussions are either suppressed or suspended just at the very point that conflict emerged. Some states, individuals, and organizations do not know how to handle this challenge. On the contrary, it is said that those who do not support the ideology in power are pushed out of the organization or sidelined in a state
